To promote the cashless transactions in agribusiness, Hon’ble Union Minister of Agriculture and Farmers Welfare directed on Nov. 23, 2016 to various departments and affiliated organisations under the ministry to strengthen infrastructure for cashless transactions and link various e-payment gateways with their business centers. Consequently, on Nov. 25, 2016, Hon’ble Union Minister of Agriculture and Farmers Welfare and Hon’ble Union Minister for Railways and senior officers of the ministry and representatives of affiliated organisations i.e. IFFCO, Kribhco, NABARD etc. in a meeting decided to promote awareness programmes, trainings and develop infrastructure in e-banking across the country.
Hon’ble Minister of Agriculture and Farmers Welfare also held several meetings on Dec 13, 2016 at Motihari with representatives of IFFCO, KRIBHCO, Airtel, other concern organisations and people representatives to strengthen the infrastructure and promote activities for cashless transactions.
The programme was jointly launched by the Hon’ble Union Minister of Agriculture and Farmers Welfare and Hon’ble Union Minister for Railways at Dadri, UP in a meeting attended by IFFCO and approx.. 2000 farmers. In this meet, mobile banking facility was installed for 30 farmers. Subsequently, such programmes are being organised across the country. On Nov. 28, 2016, officials of the Ministry attended a training programmes organised by NITI Ayog. Again on Nov. 29, 2016 Hon’ble Union Minister of Agriculture and Farmers Welfare and Hon’ble Union Minister for Railways reviewed the progress made in this respect where in officials of IFFCO, Kribhco, NCUIE, NCDC, NABARD, AMUL, Mother Dairy, State Cooperative banks, 35 interstate Cooperative banks attended. In this meeting, through presentations by NITI Ayog, emphasis was given to use prepaid cards, USSD, Adhaar Enabled e-payment system, UPI, E-wallet, POS across the country.
At present, Hon’ble Minister Sri Radha Mohan Singh Ji and all Hon’ble Minsters of State are making field visits where not only training and awareness programmes are being conducted but also farmers and other rural house holds are being helped to activate mobile banking services in their devices.
