Objectives

To enhance the
production, per unit area through
(a) technology transfer, (b) supply of
quality seeds, (c) elevating IPM activities/ and (d) providing
adequate and timely supply of inputs to the farmers . |

Salient
features : |
The
components under the scheme include: (a) assistance for production of
breeder, foundation and certified seed and distribution of certified seed;
(b) Field and Integrated Pest Management Demonstrations; (c)
Training of farmers and Extension Workers; (d) Distribution of Plant
Protection Equipments ; water
saving devices; Bio-agents and pheromone traps.
Assistance is also being provided for the establishment of
bio-agents labs and seed delinting plants for adequate availability of
bio-agents and quality delinting seed respectively. |

Eligibility
: |
The
activities are being implemented through, (a) State Department of
Agriculture, (b) ICAR, SAUS/KVKs.
The State Departments can also supplement their efforts through
NGOs/Cooperatives/ Private Sector.

Procedure
to apply : |
The State Govts./ICAR are required to submit proposals for
undertaking specific activities . This proposal is processed keeping in
view the objective of the scheme and necessary funds are made available. |

Implementation

The
scheme is being implemented since February, 2000 in 9 major States viz
.Punjab, Haryana, Rajasthan, Tamil Nadu, Karnataka, Andhra Pradesh,
Maharashtra, Gujarat; Madhya Pradesh
and 2 minor States
{Viz. Uttar Pradesh and Orissa} and 2 non-Traditional States [viz.
West Bengal, Tripura] of the Country.

Information : |
The
Funds are being provided to
ICAR for Establishment of Ginning & Training Centre, (Nagpur) and for
Front Line Demonstrations. Apart
from this, assistance is also being provided for Production of Breeder,
Foundation and Certified Seeds. |

Components |
There are four
components of the scheme viz. (i) Assistance for construction of shallow Tube Wells (STW) with pumping sets (ii) Assistance for lift irrigation points (LIP) (iii) Assistance for electric/diesel water pumping sets and (iv) Assistance for dug wells in plateau Regions. |

Funding Pattern of the Scheme |
The funding pattern of the scheme is 20:30:50 i.e. 20% of the project cost as beneficiaries' contribution, 30% as assistance from the Government of India and the remaining amount 50% as the loan to the beneficiaries. |

Implementing Agencies |
The scheme is being implemented through NABARD who in turn implement it through the commercial and rural banks in consultation with the state governments. |
