Objectives :

To enhance the national capability for disaster reduction,
preparedness and mitigation. The scheme is also expected to enhance the level of
awareness of the community about the disasters they are likely to
face and prepare them adequately to face the crisis situation in
future.

features :

The components of the scheme are human resource
development, research and consultancy services, documentation of
major events, creation of Centre for Disaster Management at the
national and state level, activities and programmes under
International Decade for Natural Disaster Reduction, public
awareness campaign.

grant by Ministry of Agriculture, Government of India.

Eligibility
:
|
These
activities are taken through leading governmental and
non-governmental organisations, scientific and technical
institution. In case of NGO, they are required to give their
certificate of registration along with other details.
|

Procedure to
apply :
|
The
interested institutions/ oganisations, both in government and on
government sector, are required to send a proposal for undertaking
specific activities under this programme.
This proposal is processed keeping in view the objectives
of the scheme and necessary funds are made available.

Implementation
status :

The
Scheme is being implemented since December, 1993. Many organisations including NGO, Institutions, State
Training Institutions are participating in various activities.
Efforts are also being made to involve media as well as
leading missions in the public awareness campaign.
With the increasing level of awareness among various
concerned, the activities are now getting momentum.

This
Ministry intends to put more emphasis on awareness activities for
officers engaged in relief activities at various levels as well as
public in large to
motivate them to participate in the disaster reduction related
activities. Action is also being taken to organise some events at
regional and international level in order to share the experience
and expertise of other countries/institutions/ experts in this
fields.
